Questions to ask your prospective EMS/Fire billing provider:

1. Have you ever been sued or investigated for billing fraud and abuse?

2. Have you ever changed the name of your business, or do you operate under multiple names?

3. Do you have your corporate compliance policies and billing practices (including actual claims submitted) audited independently? Ask for written confirmation of acceptable practices/audit finding from the independent source.

4. Do you bill exclusively for municipal based EMS/Fire Services?

5. Is your billing software written specifically for the EMS/Fire Service industry?

6. Do you operate as an all inclusive service, or do you support, maintain and charge extra for a "consulting" division?

7. Are their coders certified through Medicare?

8. Are you privately owned and operated or part of a consulting group or subdivision or "spin off" of another entity or corporation?

9. Are your rates/fees all inclusive or do they charge extras such as postage, collection fees, consulting fees, etc?

10. How many EMS/Fire client incident reports do they process annually?

11. Have you ever been terminated for cause?
